Less effort more comfort, thanks to Ginger Infused Honey& Lime!

Living in a land of always summer (for the most part anyways), a cool and refreshing drink is always an excellent idea. So this week we have prepared a recipe that is simple and easy, a perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle that is Jakarta.

At Honey Lane, we are a fan of anything citrusy and tangy. So for this recipe we will use lime, some mint leaves, some lemon balm leaves, and some of our own Ginger Infused Honey. The idea is to make a citrus-based infused water, but with the addition of honey, it makes the perfect natural energy drink.

Be sure to prepare ahead since the recipe will require a little bit of time for infusion to occur and the flavors meld perfectly. If you plan on carrying it with you as you tackle the morning rush hour, it would be best to prepare from the night before.

Water is too mainstream? Feel free to switch the liquid with fresh coconut water! The best part of living in Indonesia is that we have whole coconut available all year round. Just a short trip to a traditional market near you will yield very satisfying result.

Tea is also a good substitute if you are looking for something bittersweet. We would recommend something within the Javanese black tea family since it goes along really well with all the ingredients involved.

You can also add toppings like selasih seeds or aloe vera jelly to make it more playful.

Serves 4 / Active time 10 minutes / Total time 40 minutes

INGREDIENTS:

1 litre of water

3 whole limes, thinly sliced and edges discarded

Two handfuls of mint leaves

A handful of lemon balm leaves

100gr of Honey Lane’s Ginger Infused Honey

Ice cubes

Note: if you find that lemon balm leaves a tad difficult to source, or that you simply dislike how they taste, feel free to skip it entirely.

OPTIONAL:

Replace water with black tea or coconut water

Toppings such as selasih seeds or aloe vera

DIRECTIONS:

Take a little bit of water in a small cup, about 200ml, and mix it thoroughly with the Ginger Infused Honey. Set aside.

Crush the mint leaves and lemon balm leaves quickly using stainless steel utensils until fragrant.

Mix in the leaves and lime into the honey solution. Stir thoroughly.

Pour into the rest of the water while stirring until they are mixed thoroughly.

Let it sit in the fridge for up to 30 minutes until the flavors meld.

To serve: fill a glass with the topping of your choice and ice cubes to taste, pour in the drink and serve immediately.

If you are planning on having this drink at early in the morning, simply stir in all ingredients (no crushing required) and leave the concoction in the fridge overnight to infuse.
